Lumen

At the helm for Lumen is our winemaker, Lane Tanner.  Lane has been making cool-climate Pinot Noir in the Santa Maria Valley since 1981, in fact she is the first woman to independently own a winery in Santa Barbara County.  Lane has never cared much for trends, when she was a younger person many of her peers mocked her because she was almost always the 1st person to call a pick in a vineyard.  She still is to this day, but think back to the 1990’s when Santa Rita Hills AVA was making Santa Barbara County famous for high octane, big and brash “Parker” wines.  Lane held her ground and the Lumen Wines today mirror her philosophy throughout her 41 year career as a winemaker.  Our wines are more old world leaning with on average less than 5% New Oak used.  We relate to our fruit quality as crisp and crunchy rather than big and bold.
